MUSCLEFORGE / SUPPORT

A question about training?
Start here.

Help with plans, sets, recording, Watch controls, sync, backups, and your own AI service.

01

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. You can create plans, record reps and weights, use rest timers, and review your training on iPhone. Apple Watch is optional. Watch controls require a paired iPhone running MuscleForge and an available connection.

02

How do I start recording a workout?

Create a plan and add exercises, set counts, reps, and rest times. Start a workout and save the actual weight and reps for each set. Recording and Health permissions are optional for ordinary set logging. Exact controls depend on your installed version.

03

Why can't I record or save a video to Photos?

Check MuscleForge's camera, microphone, and Photos permissions in iPhone Settings, and check available storage. Keep the iPhone app in the foreground when recording. Locking the phone, incoming calls, or another app using the camera may interrupt capture. Exporting to Photos is separate from in-app storage and cloud synchronization.

04

What if my Watch doesn't show progress or heart rate?

Check that your devices are paired and compatible versions are installed on both. Open MuscleForge on iPhone and enter the workout, then check connectivity and Health permissions before syncing again. Heart-rate availability depends on fit and sensor sampling. Missing heart rate does not mean your set records are lost. Remote recording is not guaranteed while iPhone is locked.

05

How do iCloud and local storage work together?

Workout records are stored on your device. When cloud sync is enabled and your Apple account is available, the app can also save or sync records and media through CloudKit and iCloud. Records and video downloads may finish separately. Check your Apple account, iCloud and app sync settings, network, and cloud storage. If a video is temporarily unavailable, wait for its download or contact support before uninstalling.

06

Does an exported backup include every workout video?

In Settings → Backup & Restore, choose the full backup including workout records, videos, and photos to export plans, records, available analysis results, and linked media. Plan export contains plans only. A full backup fails if an attachment is unavailable or unreadable; resolve the issue and retry. Restore merges records and keeps newer local content. AI service configuration, API keys, and temporary conversations are excluded. Confirm a successful full backup before changing devices or uninstalling, and protect the backup file.

07

How do I connect my own AI service?

Get your service address, model ID, and API key from your provider’s API documentation and account console. In Settings → AI Service & Reviews, enter an HTTPS base URL or full endpoint compatible with OpenAI Chat Completions, a model name, and your API key. Read the sharing notice, agree, and save. The service must support JSON output; reviews accept streaming or complete JSON responses. Woyu currently provides no AI gateway, free credits, or top-up service. Your chosen provider controls fees and availability. Keys stay in this device’s Keychain and are excluded from workout backups. Changing services requires entering the key again and confirming sharing. Ordinary plans, set logging, and recording work without AI.

08

What does AI receive, and how do I stop sharing?

AI plans send your conversation, current draft, plans, and recent training references. Height, weight, and age band are sent only after you review and agree for that conversation; photos, videos, and heart rate are excluded. Workout reviews send records and available movement metrics, but no video, screenshots, or raw image coordinates. Heart-rate summaries require a separate option. Automatic reviews and heart-rate sharing are off by default. Requests go directly to your configured address. Turn off those options or remove the configuration in AI settings. Changing services cancels pending reviews and restarts the plan conversation. AI interpretations using heart rate stay on this device and in full backups you export; ordinary reviews still sync through CloudKit. The review page can separately read local Apple Health heart rate. Other devices require Health sync for the same Apple Account and their own permissions; system sync can be delayed. The app cannot recall sent data; consult your provider about retention and deletion.

09

Where do calories come from? Can I log without a Watch?

Ordinary workout logging does not require an Apple Watch. With permission, the app can associate existing Apple Watch active-energy samples from the workout period. It does not fill missing calories using body-weight or heart-rate formulas or duplicate energy samples. Without reliable energy data, workouts and duration can still be saved. Manage Health read and write permissions separately; missing heart rate or calories does not mean workout records are lost.

10

How do I manage Health permissions or delete data?

Manage Health read and write permissions in iOS Health and privacy settings, and use the app's editing, deletion, and storage controls. Turning off sync or uninstalling does not automatically delete all existing copies in Apple Health, iCloud, or export destinations. Contact support if you need help with cloud data or cannot find a control, and specify what you want to remove.
